How To Be a More Sustainable Salon & Nail Tech

Every year, the Earth yields billions of tons of natural resources and at some point, in the not too distant future, if we carry on as we are, they will run out. That’s why we must think again about what we throw away – seeing not waste, but opportunity.

The last decade has been the hottest on record, and we are now facing a climate emergency of unparalleled proportions. If we don’t make significant and rapid changes, we will see continued rising global temperatures, the melting of icecaps, continents on fire and rapid deforestation.

The mission of Global Recycling Day, as set out by the Global Recycling Foundation, is twofold:

1. To tell world leaders that recycling is simply too important not to be a global issue, and that a common, joined up approach to recycling is urgently needed.

2. To ask people across the planet to think resource, not waste, when it comes to the goods around us – until this happens, we simply won’t award recycled goods the true value and repurpose they deserve.

We know that recycling doesn’t come cheap, and that is one of the biggest reasons people are hesitant to do more, but it doesn't always have to cost money, there are many things you can do that reduce waste and save you money.

Bulk buying products reduces emissions and saves you money, while you may be able to buy a  single file for £1.99. A pack of 50 will cost £49.99 or £44.99 on subscribe and save, more money at the start, but when your work it our it is, half the price per file! Things even as simple as cutting up wipes or files reduces waste massively, you can learn about that and other tips in my webinar all about maximising profit.

Cutting up files and buffers or lint free wipes etc into 2-3 will reduce consumption and costs! You’ll be amazed at what a difference that can make per service.

Many salon owners up and down the country are becoming increasingly concerned about the amount of waste their salon produces and are doing something about it!

Recycling at KB HQ is very important to us and our amazing "KB Re-use and Re-sharpen" service raises awareness of this! Not only are you saving money in purchasing new tools, you are also saving the environment by recycling the tools you already have!

What do you do as a tech, as a salon, as a person to help tackle these issues? Are you a totally green salon? Do you recycle where possible? What lengths, if any do you go to to ensure you are doing your part?
